Frequently Asked Questions

What should I do before I contact an interior designer +

Do your research! The best way to do that is to check out each designer’s Instagram account and website. It’s important that their aesthetic and overall sense of style appeals to you. It’s also very helpful to start gathering ideas of things you love. We find the best way to do this is with a folder on Pinterest, as well as saving Instagram posts. The more direction you can give the designer, the better. Almost as important as what you like and gravitate towards is what you do not like - so gather those items as well.

How do we get started +

At KPID every project starts with a brief 15 minute phone call to make sure we’re a good fit for you. After that we schedule an initial consultation where we review your space (ideally in person) and discuss your needs and budget more in depth. From there we will put together a contract which outlines the scope of work as well as the design fee which covers all of our time spent designing, sourcing, floor planning, preparing budgets, etc. Once we are in agreement on that document and it is signed and paid, we take a deeper dive on how you plan to use the space, how you want the rooms to feel, if you have existing pieces you want to work into the design and other aesthetic details.

How does the project progress +

There are two primary parts to a design project - the designing and the implementing. The design phase starts with mood boards which are based on our previous conversations. These mood boards give you a general idea of how each space will come together - finishes, color schemes, furniture floorplans, etc. We will meet to discuss these ideas, make any necessary changes and discuss specifications. In our final presentation, you will receive a detailed plan with pricing for everything included in the scope, and once everything is approved, we collect payment in order to start purchasing items and implementing the design.

Implementation is when we order every item needed and put any custom items into production. We facilitate all receiving, inspecting and installation of these items. You will not receive your items piecemeal, rather we schedule an installation date with you after window treatments, lighting, paint/wallpaper and flooring have been completed and all items have been received.

How long will our project take +

Recent events have caused lead times on ordering and production to be very unpredictable. We stay on top of communication with vendors and keep you as updated as we are. Patience is definitely recommended during this time, but we do our best to keep the project on track and respectful of your time. Generally, you can expect a full design project to take six or more months from conception to install.

How involved in the process will I need to be +

As much as you want to be! Some clients love to be involved in every step, others just want necessary updates. It’s all about whatever makes you happy with the process and final product.
